Climateprediction news:

If you're running climateprediction ... or thinking of running
it on Linux, DON'T.  The linux client is borked.

http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=3846

The developers repeatedly denied there were problems even after lots of
reports came in.  'Poor hardware' was always the scapegoat.

Funny how they ignored the common denominator ... Linux.

Local article in today's morning paper on some guy running World Computing Grid (WCG), another Boinc project.  The article is unclear whether he's on a team but a quick search for 'IBM Tucson' in boincstats pulled up a relatively small team, producing just 1/10th of our daily production & 1/4 over all team points.

http://www.boincstats.com/stats/boinc_team_graph.php?pr=bo&id=15639

With WIYB ranked at 320 in the world I think it's safe to say we're the top of the food chain in Tucson ... if not the state.

Nice publicity.

Edit:

Looks like this guy is employed by United Way Tucson.  They plug WCG here:
